
The National Land and Survey Institute was established on 1 May 1998 following a directive from the Cabinet on 9 July 1997. At the time, INSTUN was placed under the administration of the Ministry of Land and Co-operative Development. With the establishment of this institute, the task of training, which was previously handled by the Training Section of the Department of Federal Director-General of Land and Mines and the Malaysian Survey and Mapping Department, is now wholly handled by INSTUN.
